Dancing in the Landscape 2026

Poster for 2026 Dancing in the Landscape

Director’s Notes

Behind the newly named Toshio Sato Commons building at Elon University’s Global Neighborhood, site-specific dance will deepen the legacy of embodied courage, curiosity, leadership, and global friendship. Following the global theme of “Thriving as a Global Citizen,” this performance reflects Elon’s commitment to intercultural learning, community, and engagement through the arts. At the heart of this concert, we highlight our first-year dance students, student choreography, faculty, and guest artist Justin Tornow, for creations made to be ephemeral by nature, grounded in the environment, time of day, and history of the location that inform these moving memories.

Delicate Territory examines how ancestral memory can be discovered through movement and lead us through tumultuous times.

How can we hold onto or reimagine the passed-down wisdom required to navigate the future? How can we lean on our legacy of agility and innovation and apply it to our present circumstances?
