Spring Dance Concert: Emanation

Spring Dance Concert Poster

Director’s Notes

Out of the shadows of a black hole or deep void, the universe has immense power to create meaningful and beautiful creations from a place unknown (to others). This unknown world holds creativity without hesitation to find power, purpose, and the complexity of light in our own existence. This is a re-imagining of our possibilities, where a spark ignites, sending ripples of energy that come to life on the stage of the McCrary Theater. Emanation, the Spring Dance Concert, is an evening-length performance that explores the transformative power of movement and the flow of creation. This dynamic concert showcases the work of Dance faculty and notable guest choreographers Kara Jenelle Wade and Wesley Williams Jr., featuring the talent of dance program majors, minors and community members. Join us for an evening of innovation, expression, and the captivating rhythms of the human body in motion.

Life is a vast hole that can swallow you up without warning for no reason or purpose other than to recreate you. Once recreated, you hold remnants of who you were, reincarnated back into your original skin, but someone more adaptable, purposeful, and complex emerges. Over time, the black hole begins to symbolize the start of a farewell to yourself, a goodbye to another component of you that will emerge recreated once more.
